Primary Offensive Strategy:
Returning players key to your offense:
Not to be cliché but, we rely on ALL of our guys to make our offense successful. They will ALL have specific jobs/duties to uphold and if that does not happen our offense won’t be as successful as it could have been. That being said – we have a few players who have proven they are really good at producing “stats”/points for our team. JaVaontae Ford (Sr.) and Dominez Burnett (SO) are both returning honorable mention All-Americans that have had 25+ pt games and many times have done it when it mattered the most against the best opponents we play. The great thing about both of these two individuals is that they pcan score in a variety of ways. Dominez is great in transition, shoots the 3’, has a unique ability at 6’5 to get to the basket off the dribble and is our best post scorer. JaVontae Ford is incredibly good at attacking the rim in transition, has shot nearly 40% from the 3 during his time at DU and is one of our best offensive rebounders which gets him a lot of easy baskets as well.
Returning Lettermen: 11
Primary Defensive Strategy: Primarily Man to Man pressure defense, 1-3-1 and 2-3 mactchup zone mixed in
Returning players key to your defense:
Again, very tough for me to answer as we pride ourselves on “team” oriented” defense. However, if do have 3 VERY good individual defenders. Dominez Burnett is a lock down 6’5 kid who can guard any position on the floor. He is a great athlete and incredibly strong for a sophomore. DeArmond Davis has been an all-league defender and one of our best defenders since he arrived 4 years ago. He is 6’7 and incredibly long yet has the ability to defend any position as well. The thing that makes DeArmond great on the defensive end is his sheer determination and fight. If his man scores – it ruins his day. Lastly, we have an incoming FR PG – Braima Hai who is one of the best on ball defenders I’ve coached. He is incredibly charismatic and his effort is infectious to our team. Not to mention, he is cat quick and just keeps people in front of him while really pressuring the ball and making it tough on opposing PG’s.
Top 5 Recruits:
Mike Betcher - 6’9 SR transfer from Goshen College.
Mike led NAIA Goshen College to one of their greatest seasons ever in 2011-12. He led them in rebounding and blocks. Mike is nearly a 4.0 student and we will rely heavily on him to help us in a great number of categories during the upcoming year.

Braima Hai – 5’9 FR – Godwin Heights HS of Grand Rapids, MI
Braima is the fastest/quickest kid I’ve ever coach. He is a fantastic on ball defender and REALLY changes ends fast with the ball which will help us in transition. Although he seems to be going 100mph he always is in control and does not turn the ball over. Braimas biggest attribute might be his eagerness to compete. Although he is small he doesn’ t know and is a tremendous rebounder at just 5’9.

John McCloud – 6’6 FR – Lawrence North HS of Indianapolis, IN
“Cloud” as his teammates call him is really skilled. He makes 3’s and handles it very well for a 4 man. He will really be able to stretch the defense and is a very good rebounder. If John begins to compete a little harder the sky is the limit and could be one of our best players in the near future.

Nick Gamble – 6’0 FR – Homestead HS of Fort Wayne, IN
Nick is a really gifted offensive PG. He is really good coming off ballscreens and has incredible explosiveness that will allow him to get to the rim and finish vs bigger opponents. Nick is a big shot taker/maker. He made 3 game winning shots in HS and appears he will fight for the starters roll at PG as a true freshman.
Coach Paddock says this about the offense:
It is a work in progress and will be until the very last game of the year. The thing about our program that has made our team successful on Offense has been our players willingness to share the ball. We have a great group of kids that pride themselves on playing for one another. In the last few years we are undefeated in contests in which we’ve had 20+ assists and we are constantly talking about that as a staff with our team. I am a firm believer that no matter what offense you run with any team if the players believe in it and each other it will be successful. I think that is evident as our program is constantly changing our offensive ideas/concepts and yet it still works.
Coach Paddock says this about the defense:
We work on it 75% of the practice everyday! Defense is who we are and that won’t change no matter who we recruit. In fact, a great deal of our offense is generated by our pressure defense. If the other team doesn’t score and is turning the ball over it greatly increases our chances to get easy baskets at the other end. Like every other year – our practices have demonstrated to our coaches that we should again, be a very good defensive group that will be very diverse in what and how we do things.
